Armour Virus Control
About Armour:
ARMOUR Virus Control provides virus protection, identification and eradication of computer viruses. ARMOUR Intelligent Surveillance System monitors your PC around the clock in order to ensure absolute protection. It has the capacity to operate on various platforms, including all Microsoft Windows' platforms, Microsoft Exchange, Lotus Notes, Novell Netware and Internet Mail Servers supporting SMTP. Included in ARMOUR is a virus scanning and cleaning engine from Norman Data Defence which is the winner of '100% detection' Award for its virus scanner by 'Virus Bulletin' Magazine.
AVC Features:
  • SandBox Technology: SandBox is the world's first virus scan engine implemented with a full-scale emulation of certain categories of suspicious code before the code is allowed to run in a real environment. Read more about the SandBox.
  • Internet Protection: AVC now scans and blocks your incoming and outgoing e-mails as well as files downloaded from News Groups. So you need not worry about attachments. AVC supports the following protocols: POP3, IMAP, SMTP and NNTP
  • Compressed Files: Able to decompress to scan the content of more than 30 different archive formats like ZIP, ARJ, TAR, JAR, GZIP, BZIP2, RAR, ACE, ARC and PAK, as well as messages encoded with the internet formats MIME and UUencode.
AVC Highlights:
  • Simplified Installation: the deployment of AVC 5 can be done using NT domain and Novell as the control. This means all updates can be roll-out through these two domains when user login.
  • Simplified Management: the Administrator at the central server can do remote configuration.
  • Ease of Use: The simplified user interface means reduced user intervention to the program. Almost all the management of the software can be automated.
  • Invisibility: all the detections are 'on-access' scanning. Users still have options to do on-demand with simplified interface. On the LAN, activities can be managed in the update server (e.g.: virus alert notification, quarantine and program update)
Practical Interface includes:
  • Configuration Editor: The Administrator can select which module will be made available to user. Control the on-scheduler and on-access.
  • Task Editor: Creates customizable task/functions such as scanning specific drive on specific time.
  • Utilities: Can create task and schedule it accordingly. Centralized messaging of virus alert. Each PC on virus alert (LAN) are logged in the central Message System. Centralized quarantine of viruses.
  • Internet Update (Automated): The internet update can be configured according to schedule within LAN and Dialup. On a LAN the update can be configured to one internal update server.

SandBox Technology:
The SandBox provides better protection against known and unknown viruses. Imagine that you open an e-mail attachment with a new and dangerous computer virus. The virus immediately starts changing selected system files, while other files are deleted. Very soon, your computer is wrecked. In addition, the virus is using the network to infect other computers. At least, that is what the virus believes, in reality, no harm has been done. The virus has been tricked to reveal itself inside a closed, insulated environment: the SandBox.
